“I’ve tried everything for the last 3 months, but the weight isn’t coming off.”
I hear this a lot from the women around me.
They’re frustrated that the scale isn’t budging quickly enough; that the result of years and years of unhealthy eating isn’t being undone in a matter of months. The truth is that by trying to change everything at once, they’re just setting themselves up for failure.
Notice that the title of this post is ‘To Move The Scale, Do Something New’, not ‘How To Drop 3 Dress Sizes in 2 Weeks’, ‘Overhaul Your Diet’, ’10 Ways To Lose 10 Pounds’ or ‘Revamp Your Workouts’.
If you’re stuck, depressed, feeling hopeless or just really impatient, start with this: Be still, quiet your mind and pick ONE thing you can see yourself doing easily.
There may be 20 things you need to do, but I want you to pick just one. It could be:
- Swapping Coca-cola for green tea
- Picking a container of fruit instead of a cupcake
- Asking for a side of sweet potato instead of fries.
- Taking the stairs instead of the lift.
- Exercising for 5 minutes every day.
Now I want you to take 15 minutes to think about that one thing you can do, and how you’re going to get it done.
Here’s your next step: Do that one thing you’ve picked for the next 30 days.
To make sure you do it, create a checklist, tell your partner or close friends, or make a public declaration on Facebook to let all your friends know what you plan to do. Be accountable.
When your 30 days are up, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org to let me know how it went, and if you notice any emotional or physical changes. I read every response.
